President Signs Devil Track Road Bill

President Barack Obama has signed a bill from Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-Minnesota) to allow Cook County to move forward with the Devil Track Road project.

The project has been stalled because the land where the new roadway will go had originally been set aside to expand the Grand Marais-Cook County Airport.? Though the property was not actually needed for the airport, federal regulations prevented it from being used for anything else.

The bill, H.R. 2947, directs the Secretary of Agriculture to release conditions on the land's use.? "Given the high degree of political gridlock taking place in Washington, it's important we remain focused on the common sense, bipartisan legislation that needs to be accomplished.? I'm happy we're finally bringing resolution to this long-standing issue for Cook County," said Rep. Cravaack in a prepared statement.

The Devil Track Road, or County Highway 8, project is intended to improve safety.
